Thunderhead Alliance: 2008 Leadership Retreat

"Raising Your Organization to a New Level"

Uniting Bicycle & Pedestrian Advocacy Leaders from Across North America!

The 2008 Leadership Retreat Committee is working hard to respond to your needs for an outstanding retreat, which will gather our leaders prior to ProWalk/ProBike. This year’s retreat will deliver successful strategies for:
  • Increasing your fundraising capacity through opportunities and partnerships;
  • Building the capacity of your organization, hiring that next staff person, and engaging your board;
  • Engaging volunteers and growing your membership.
In addition, the retreat will give you a chance to connect with bicycle and pedestrian advocacy leaders from across North America, allowing you to draw upon the best practices to raise your organization to the next level. Participants are encouraged to arrive Saturday evening, as workshops will begin first thing Sunday morning. What to expect

We are still finalizing the agenda, but some of the workshops you can expect are:
  1. Growing Up – Your organization is established, you have volunteers and at least one paid staff member. How do you make that transition to a larger staff and a broader slate of activities? What kind of support should be expected from the board to continue growth? One paid staff person is not enough to get the job done right...let’s talk about how to raise money and awareness by developing a solid work plan for the board and staff.
  2. Technology for Our Movement (everything from databases, online event registrations, online systems and tools, list serves, RSS feeds, content management systems, etc.
  3. Empowering your organization and the people working with you – This workshop focuses on strategies managers can use to empower their staff, strengthen staff and volunteer commitment, and improve overall success of the organization’s strategy. Topics will also include Complete Streets, Safe Routes to School, and a highly anticipated discussion of Thunderhead's role in next year's transportation bill.
This retreat brings us together to connect, build relationships, and share wisdom that will propel our work in a collective fashion throughout North American communities.
